My-Wardrobe recently launched their men’s section, joining the ranks of online retailers making tracks in menswear. We had a chat with one half of their buying team, Lee Douros, about the launch.

We’re really happy with all of the labels that have come on board for the SS09 season – they were all our top picks! One of must-haves are APC, the masters of Parisian understated cool, whose clothes will be sticking around in your wardrobe for seasons to come. On the high-end side, no-one can top Vivienne Westwood for pieces with an interesting quirk, like shirts with a high, three button collar or “drunk” trenchcoats (pictured, left) that have an undulating, twisted front.

One of the newer brands is Swedish label Velour, their style is very wearable but with a twist. Take the striped hoody, that has an asymmetrical zip front and double pocket detail, it’ll definitely stand out from the crowd! Also relatively new are great Danes, Cold Method. They take catwalk styling inspiration from the likes of Dior Homme and Raf Simons, making their pieces heavily wearable while still mega cool.

You’ve gone for quite a classic label list, are you going to try and tempt your buyer with more extreme purchases in the future?

Our ethos at my-wardrobe.com Men’s is to appeal to all men, so the key is to have something for everyone but at the same time include catwalk pieces that will appeal to the gentlemen who is looking for a show-stopping outfit. We’ve also already bought some great new brands for AW09, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy!

What is your background before coming to my-wardrobe?

Before joining the team at my-wardrobe.com I was at Liberty Menswear for some time, buying across all areas of men’s, from casualwear to international designer. Previous to this I was in Melbourne, where I bought for two young independent designer boutiques, robe collective and Manvious. Both of these positions were conducted simultaneously while completing my BA in Fine Arts Gold and Silversmithing. Needless to say I was busy!

What do you think is going to be a big seller on the site, and which trends are you looking forward to in the summer?

I think the Barbour jackets are going to fly out the door – they are a great mix of English Heritage, functionality and Country-to-City style; jeans by denim masters Nudie are highly covetable as they have their fits down pat; and Mulberry accessories for their considered design and luxe materials.

Summer is always great for colour, especially after a long, grey winter. This season we have bought an array of bright colours in wearable shapes like casual button down shirts and mesh polo tops, for that injection summer festival cheer. Check print shirts are also strong, and many brands have refined their offer to combine cool shirt detailing like miniature collars with great check colour mixes.
